Nevada Democrats Plan to Lower Costs as Lombardo and Trump Double Down on Helping Their “Billionaire Friends” at Las Vegas Rally

Yesterday, Donald Trump came to town to spew more broken promises while Nevada Republicans gobbled it up and completely ignored the harsh reality that working families are living from the GOP-manufactured affordability crisis. Lombardo doubled-down on Trump’s spin, going so far as to claim that helping his top priority is helping his “billionaire friends” over helping working Nevadans.

After unveiling billboards on Joe Lombardo’s “commanding officer,” NV Dems held a press conference in Reno as part of our annual statewide tour to call out the president and his MAGA minions for leaving Nevadans behind. State Party Chair Daniele Monroe-Moreno was joined by Attorney General Aaron Ford and former Assembly Majority Leader Teresa Benitez-Thompson to set the record straight on housing, health care, grocery and gas prices that are forcing working families to make impossible choices.

Fox 5: Nevada Democrats, Culinary Union highlight impact of Trump’s economic policies ahead of Las Vegas visit

The Nevada Democrats and the Culinary Union are expected to hold separate press conference highlighting President Trump’s impact on workers across the state ahead of his visit Wednesday.
Since Trump’s event will be Red Rock Casino, the union noted recent $1 million donations from Station Casinos and its owners Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta to a PAC affiliated with Gov. Joe Lombardo, collectively accounting for roughly one-third of all money raised by Lombardo in 2025.
Speakers at the Las Vegas event are expected to include Culinary Union Secretary-Treasurer Ted Pappageorge, Rep. Dina Titus (D-NV-01), Rep. Steven Horsford (D-NV-04), and Rep. Susie Lee (D-NV-03), along with union members and Station Casinos workers.

The Nevada State Democratic Party is putting up billboard signs about Trump’s visit that tie him to Lombardo and higher costs. The state is grappling with a shortage of affordable housing, exploding energy demand from artificial intelligence data centers and federal cuts to key state programs.
On Wednesday, Trump will discuss the economy during an event at Red Rock Casino in Las Vegas. Only 32% of U.S. adults approved of Trump’s handling of the economy in an AP-NORC poll conducted in late July. In the same poll, most Americans, 69%, characterized the state of the economy as “poor,” and many said the cost of everyday essentials like groceries and gas was a “major” source of stress in their lives.

The Nevada State Democratic Party this week unveiled two billboards — one each in Las Vegas and Reno — declaring “Joe Lombardo takes orders from his ‘Commanding Officer’ Donald Trump,” a reference to leaked audio of a closed-door event for veterans in which Lombardo, a former Clark County sheriff, described his relationship with Trump as being “no different than your commanding officer.”
The effect is magnified in Nevada, where gas prices rank fourth-highest in the nation at $4.81 a gallon, according to AAA — and tariffs are credited with driving up prices on everyday goods.
“Joe Lombardo’s ‘commanding officer’ Donald Trump is coming to town next week while Nevadans are getting crushed by sky-high grocery, utility, housing, and health care bills,” Nevada State Democratic Party Chair Daniele Monroe-Moreno said in a statement last week when Trump’s visit was announced.

Anticipating the presidential visit, the Nevada State Democratic Party put up a billboard in Las Vegas that pictured the president and the governor, claiming that Lombardo takes orders from Trump.
“Donald Trump is in Las Vegas campaigning with Joe Lombardo, and together they’re sharing a stage and trying to gaslight voters about the reality of the Lombardo-Trump economy raising costs on Nevadans,” Ford said through his campaign.

As polling shows Americans souring on the state of the economy, the president sought to reframe the issue in his party’s favor.
Onstage with Trump, Lombardo said that the president “cares about America.”

“Quite often, when the press and the media runs him down, they think about, you know, ‘He’s taking care of his billionaire friends,’” the governor said. “But those billionaire friends provide jobs. And unless you take care of them, those jobs are absent.”
