Nevada DMV Launches New Website to Improve Customer Experience

CARSON CITY – The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has launched a new website aimed at making it easier for Nevadans to find information, access resources and complete DMV services online, while providing a modernized look and feel and enhanced accessibility features for all customers, especially those who use assistive technologies.

“This project has been a massive undertaking for our staff,” said DMV Director Tonya Laney. “They have worked relentlessly for over a year to transform the user experience. We know that many Nevadans begin their DMV experience online, and we want that experience to be as straightforward and accessible as possible. This new site is an important step in continuing to modernize how we serve the public.”

The DMV worked to improve the site’s Americans with Disability Act (ADA) accessibility as part of the State of Nevada’s ongoing effort to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards for government websites. The redesign addressed areas including color contrast, keyboard navigation, page structure, headings, links, images and compatibility with screen readers and other assistive technologies.

The new website also puts the DMV ahead of the federal government’s accessibility timeline, where under the U.S. Department of Justice’s Title II rule, all larger state and local government entities must meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA accessibility standards by April 27, 2027.

“We took a very intentional approach to this project,” said Public Information Officer Hailey Foster. “Our goal was not only to give the website a new look, but to improve the entire customer journey. As part of our ‘DMV Wherever’ initiative, we are heavily focused on getting customers to go online rather than booking an appointment in office. The redesigned website will help achieve our goal, and we are excited to see how the public interacts with this experience more.”

The DMV will continue making improvements to the website as part of its ongoing modernization efforts. Customers are encouraged to explore the redesigned site and use its online services whenever possible to complete transactions without visiting a DMV office.
